Horizon

A melancholic storm dwelling in my mind
Suddenly overshadowing daily grind
Tears in my eyes and mentally downtrodden
Thoughts about what was lost but not forgotten

Flowing in the relentless river of time
Most of my hours are spent making a dime
Vanishing youth and health, though not so sudden
Thoughts about what was lost but not forgotten

Reflectively pondering on past choices
Hearing the past echoes of youthful voices
Longing back for when the world was not rotten
Thoughts about what was lost but not forgotten

Painfully grieving and living the sorrow
Sometimes briefly wish there’d be no tomorrow
Long-lasting choking on my life’s concoction
Thoughts about what was lost but not forgotten

A sliver of sunlight, clouds slowly disperse
The darkness inside me begins to reverse
I suddenly find my thoughts quite upsetting
My focus should be on never forgetting

The beautiful moments that life bestows me:
Enjoying a laugh with someone who knows me
Observing an act of human compassion
Watch children meet life with naive impassion

Be blessed with loved ones and family dearest
Experience nature when air is clearest
To sit on the beach and watch the sun setting
And feel the seeping away of my fretting

Remember the duality of living
is both to receive but also be giving
The darkness and the light wanders hand in hand
Thus storms in my mind should never be banned
